My name is Janene and I am the founder of Baby Steps Postpartum Care. I became a postpartum doula in 2022 through DONA International after realizing that I could not stay away from supporting children and families, although the pandemic in 2020 ended my career with supporting children ages 5-14 with GSHOM. I have been passionate about babies and children since becoming an aunt at the age of four. I knew as early as eight years old I wanted to be a mother and I made sure I nurtured and served all the ones close to me, so much so I was nicknamed little mama from family and grandma from my peers.
I was a doula before I knew what a doula was; from supporting my mother through postpartum with my baby brother, my sister during her teen pregnancy with my nephew and in my case my son's adoptive parents. Yes, I chose the path of adoption for my son in 2015 and was graced with a beautiful open adoption story.
I have over 12 years experience working in childcare and I am an ardent advocate for involving the whole family in each step of postpartum because I understand the importance of community support. I want my clients to feel as if I am an addition to that as I educate, and care for them through this transitional period. I am now certified with ProDoula as a Postpartum and Infant Care doula as well as Advanced Postpartum Support and plan to continue to educate myself to better support each family I contact.
